Motor Vehicles Inspection / Car Inspection / Shaken
- Japanese
- 車検
Automobiles, Kei cars, and two-wheeled vehicles with 250 CC or more must undergo a national inspection. Vehicles that do not have the inspection cannot legally drive on public roads.
Basically, ask a dealer such as Toyota or a garage. You can do it yourself, but it takes time and effort to go through a dealer.
Benefits, Systems
Shaken cycle
Getting a car 'shaken' means it undergoes a legal safety inspection. Cars for private use are required to be shaken in the third year after a new car is purchased, and every two years thereafter. Commercial vehicles and cargo vehicles have shorter cycles.
When to take to be shaken
Usually there is a sticker on the front window of a car and the expiration date is written clearly on it. If you undergo shaken within one month before the expiration date, it will be renewed for two years from the expiration date.
There are no penalties for taking the car to be shaken after the due date, but driving on public roads without it being valid is illegal and may incur extra costs.
