Foreigner insurance
Foreigners working in Japan (that are not just here for sight-seeing purposes) that intend on remaining in the country for a period longer than 3 months must register as residents - and also for national health insurance if their chosen employer does not provide them with Company Health Insurance.

Present the following documents at your municipal office within 14-days from the date that the reason for taking out insurance has occurred.

- Qualified Recipient Certificate (If you were fired from your job)
- Bankbook (If you wish to pay your premiums by direct debit)

Withdrawal of insurance:
Present the following documents at your municipal office within 14 days from the date that the reason for withdrawing from insurance has occurred.

- National Health Insurance Card
- Seal
- Decision Notice of Public Assistance (when you are withdrawing because of receiving welfare)
Changing Situation:

- Certificate of Enrolment (The case where your child enters school)

- You must take swift action to begin the process of arranging National Health insurance, as you may suffer a disadvantage if you do not take out the insurance within the 14 day period.
- If you do not complete the withdrawal procedure when you commence Company Health Insurance, you will continue to pay both premiums if you were previously enrolled in a different form of insurance.
